Church Transformation Team Information

For churches to be transformative agents of God’s grace for their communities, congregations often require significant transformation. The work of Plowpoint is to equip local churches to become effective instruments of healing and ministry for the communities they are called to serve. Since 2003, Plowpoint has worked with hundreds of congregations providing direct interventions in relational healing, strategic visioning, and leadership development to equip and empower churches to move boldly forward in fulfilling God’s mission among and through them.

To best ensure that the ministry of Plowpoint is most accessible and affordable to any and all churches, Plowpoint trains teams of individuals to work with congregations in providing critical elements of Plowpoint’s Transforming Churches Services. Both clergy and laity are equipped to become members of a Church Transformation Team to serve a particular region. It is anticipated that team members will serve as unpaid servants (volunteers) who may receive an honorarium at the discretion of the originating agency, such as a consortium of districts, synods, associations or a diocese.

To respond adequately to the needs of the churches within a region, Plowpoint trains the Church Transformation Teams in the following modules:

  • Longing to Belong: Conflict Transformation
  • Stepping in the Stream: Strategic Visioning
  • Moving from Good-Things to God-Things: Combination Conflict Transformation and Strategic Visioning
  • Checking Vital Signs: Assessing Local Church Potential
  • Transitional Leadership Coaching
  • Situational Leadership Coaching
  • Staff Development

Optimally, the Church Transformation Team will be equipped and empowered to journey with a congregation through various phases of their growth and development to become faithful and effective in their ministry. In each situation, the Church Transformation Team will assess what is best needed to move a congregation forward in their particular timing and circumstances through a unique plan for that congregation.

Components of the training:

Longing to Belong Regional Seminar
Plowpoint will conduct a Longing to Belong seminar to which any clergy and laity of local churches in the area to be served are invited to attend. During the six-hour seminar participants will be equipped in the basics of biblical conflict transformation.

Church Transformation Team Member Application and Interviews
Interested clergy and laity throughout the region served by the contracting agency will be encouraged to apply by completing and submitting an application for the selection of team members.

Church Transformation Team Training
To ensure that the Church Transformation Team is adequately prepared to respond to the sometimes unpredictable needs of congregations, the training will include both direct instruction in all applicable modules.

Assessment and Coaching for Individual Team Members
In addition to the group training and development, Plowpoint conducts assessments and provides one-on-one coaching with each member of the Church Transformation Team to ensure optimal individual and team effectiveness.

Continuing Education Training Events
To ensure optimal effectiveness and ongoing growth of the Church Transformation Teams, Plowpoint will provide continuing education training events including updates on materials, processes, and skill building.

Consultation with Team Coordinator and Team Members
Plowpoint will provide phone consultation and e-mail support to the Church Transformation Team Coordinator and to team members.
